Before coming to Universal Business
School, I had to pass three rounds of Skype and telephonic interview to get
admission in India’s first green B-School which is endorsed by 60 CEOs. I still
remember that my final round of interview lasted almost one and half hour and was
taken by the Chairman himself, the great mentor Sir Gurdip Singh Anand. That
evening was the turning point of my life and I was absolutely overwhelmed by
the lessons he had given me on that very day. He wanted to speak with my
parents at the same time, I was curious and thought that I would meet and ask
him about his impression but ………Alas!!!
Late Sir Gurdip Singh Anand Founder Chairman - Universal Business School |
I regret that I never got the
opportunity to meet him after coming to the campus due to his ill health since as
he was severe health issues. Now that he is no more yet I will not prefix “late”
in to his name because few people are immortal for their deeds. Whether we get
the opportunity to meet them or not, it doesn’t matter, they were, they are and
they will be exceptional always. Our beloved Gurdip Sir is unprecedented in
every aspect, be it his early professional life, be it the creation of our Alma
Mater Universal Business School.
He was self-aware, self-regulated,
optimistic, ever ready to embrace challenges and adapt according to the
requirements. He was extremely disciplined, well-mannered and empathetic
towards everyone. He always believed that UBS is a large family and the entire
staff as well as students are its family members. He was a perfectionist and
wanted to take UBS to the highest level of perfection. He stayed on campus with
his family which proves his responsibility and accountability.
Even the security guards on campus have
marvellous impression of him. In their words, he was a very humble soul. He, himself
indulged in the “Clean UBS” campaign and was a mastermind who tried to expand
UBS to its highest level of success. The newly built Girls’ hostel in which we
are dwelling currently, the Library, the 160 seater in which we conduct our
classes; all are the brain-child of this extra ordinary man with exceptional qualities.
Not only the infrastructure, he has left behind the legacy of world-class
experiential learning for the UBSians.

Once it such happened that he suggested
me to go through few books of Robin Sharma, Kishore Biyani, Sam Walton and
Stephen Covey. He also suggested to describe English alphabets. At the outset,
I was surprised at this question but later on I realized that his intention of
making me learn the mantras of achieving a successful life as a management
student through “Accept failure” , “Be bold to recover yourself” , “Change
yourself if it is highly required” , “Dare to do an exceptional task” ,
“Encourage yourself that you can” , “Fail till you reach success” , “Gain
positive vibes from failures” , “Hide your weakness in front of others” , “Imagine
yourself as a leader” , “Join good companionship” , “Kind to others” , “Lie can
damage your career” , “Manage yourself” , “Network building factors” ,
“Optimism fetches win” , “Perfect in your work” , “Quiet and calm to achieve
success” , “Rely on your capabilities” , “Struggle to reach your goals” , “Time
management matters” , “Unity in your organization” , “Value yourself and
others” , “Watch each and every minute things” , “Xenial in your community” ,
“Zeal yourself, don’t jeal of others”.
Though it saddens me to think that I missed
the chance to meet this super-influential person yet I think I am quite lucky
that I had a conversation with the great
leader, the superman with highest level of integrity and emotional
intelligence, the man of commitment. May be ,we have lost his body but his soul
is still with us, he is with us and he will always be there with us as our
Friend, Philosopher and Guide to take us in the right direction with his
intense vision and mission. This is my tribute towards my “GURU” and we, as
UBSians, should be more responsible and accountable to carry forward his dream
and to move the baton to take UBS to the epitome of success.
